There
is no symmetry in these areas of language (the audition, in a magical
context,
would be, symmetrically, an "evidence").
All
that occurs in time, is instantaneous. Music is real. Who produces it
is
a transductor. Who perceives it is a "metaphorizer" or creator of
metaphors,
and here the sound parts from the instant to become memory or desire;
desire
and surprise are simply two extremes of fantasy, and fantasy is the
only
factory of reality (which we often confuse with production, even though
this is nothing but an adaptation of materials to the consumption
standard.
Memory is culture. We interpret the future in desire terms, that’s to
say,
in a foreseeing kind of way. Memory is an accumulation of data that we
call experience. Desire is interested speculation in which
individuality
merges: when we hear music we don’t expect what will please us, rather
that what in the context of what we are listening to will satisfy the
structure.
When we detach the sound from the organized concept we find ourselves
in
front of an alleged contigency that in fact is surrounded by
preestablished
parameters. It’s worth mentioning that the more sophisticated a chance
generation system is, the less kaotic the outcome is and, therefore,
more
deceiving.
